I recently stumbled upon the tragic case of Wildlife Officer Lloyd O'Neil Mayse, and it really struck a chord with me. The fact that this happened while he was just doing his job, checking hunting licenses - something that seems so routine - makes it all the more shocking. From what I've read, this incident sheds light on the unpredictable and dangerous aspects of being a wildlife officer, something I hadn't fully realized before. Officer Mayse sounded like an incredible individual, especially having been a Green Beret and Vietnam veteran. It's heartbreaking to think about the kind of toll his loss must have taken on his family, friends, and colleagues. I can't begin to imagine what they went through, especially with the complexities of the trial and the acquittal. Does anyone know how his family has been coping over the years or if the community has done anything in his memory?
