I’ve been reflecting on the incredibly difficult situation the grocery store staff and customers were thrust into when Officer Buitrago was shot. I can’t even imagine the fear and chaos they went through in those horrifying moments. Witnessing such a tragic event must have been incredibly traumatic for everyone in the store that night. The bravery displayed by Officer Buitrago is truly remarkable, but the impact on those civilians shouldn’t be overlooked. I hope they’ve received the necessary support to cope with this trauma. It’s moments like these that highlight the unpredictable nature of everyday situations turning deadly. How admirable it is that people come together to support each other in the aftermath of tragedy. Has there been any recent discussion or organization in Winston-Salem for continued support or remembrance in their community?
