I've been thinking a lot about the role the campus could have played in preventing what happened to Rosa Speagle. It’s clear that security measures had to be improved, but were there warning signs that went unnoticed? With Gregory Schultz having a past marked by violence, I wonder if there were opportunities for intervention before things escalated to this tragic point. I’m also concerned about David Jernigan, Rosa’s friend, who witnessed such a traumatic event. It must be unimaginably difficult to carry that experience with him. Is the campus providing ongoing support for students like David who were directly impacted, or did the immediate aftermath counseling suffice? In my opinion, ongoing support is crucial for healing in the long term. This tragedy is a stark reminder that we need to be more vigilant as a society in recognizing signs of stalking and abusive behavior. My heart goes out to Rosa’s family, especially her young child who will grow up without her. I really hope this incident pushes more institutions to take proactive steps in protecting students and addressing the root causes of such violence.
