It's been over a decade since Tariq Hussain's tragic death, yet the chilling details of that day at Bobby's Grocery still resonate with many of us. What stands out to me is the courage Tariq displayed in those final moments. Facing an armed assailant, his instinct to protect himself and his livelihood was a testament to his bravery and resilience. I can't even begin to imagine the fear he must have felt, yet he still chose to act. It's stories like these that remind us of the human element behind such tragic events. The trial brought to light so much about the perpetrator, Samuel James Cooper—his troubled past and violent tendencies. But for me, the focus remains on the impact this horrific event had on Tariq's family and community. He was a store owner, a neighbor, and a friend to many in Raleigh. Reflecting on his life and legacy, I hope his family finds some comfort in knowing that justice, in some form, was achieved. My thoughts continue to be with them.
