It’s so difficult to comprehend how a community can be so gripped by fear that coming forward seems impossible, but I can understand why residents might feel this way. It's gut-wrenching to think about Deron Brooks’ family having to face not only the unimaginable loss of their loved one but also the frustration of justice slipping further away with each silent day. We hear so much about the broader issues - gang activity, guns, socioeconomic struggles - but when it boils down to it, it’s individual lives, like Deron's, that bear the brunt of these systemic failures. What makes it even more frustrating is how this lack of witness cooperation hinders the investigations and lets perpetrators walk free. I truly hope that one day, more voices can join together to break the cycle of silence and fear in these communities, paving the way for healing and justice for victims like Deron. It's scary but necessary. Sending all my thoughts to those who knew and loved him.
