I’ve been following Martha Hendrikson Frech’s case closely, and I keep coming back to the role the community played—or could have played—in helping solve it. It must have been incredibly tough for her friends and neighbors in Monroe to digest such a tragic event. I read that the investigation encouraged people to come forward with any tidbit of information, even if it seemed insignificant. It makes me wonder if anyone hesitated due to fear or doubt. What’s heartbreaking is thinking about the information that might have been missed or delayed because someone wasn’t sure if they should speak up. I hope this case serves as a catalyst for community members to feel empowered to always support investigations, no matter how small their insight might seem. We owe it to Martha and her family to ensure everyone feels like their voice matters.
