Has anyone else been following the frustratingly slow progress in the Keith Smith case? It’s such a tragedy, and I can’t even begin to imagine what his family must be going through. I’ve been thinking a lot about how lack of witness cooperation seems to play a huge role in these cold cases. The area where Keith was shot, Bayview-Hunters Point, has struggled with this issue for years. It’s heartbreaking to think how many similar stories get stuck like this—people knowing something but feeling too scared or distrustful to step up. I totally understand their fear, especially in neighborhoods where retaliation might be a serious concern. Makes me wonder what more could be done to protect people who do decide to come forward. Surely, creating a safer environment for witnesses could make a difference in getting justice for Keith and others like him. Thoughts?
