Has anyone considered the possibility that Dona might have wandered off and found refuge with someone who didn’t realize she was missing? Given her Alzheimer’s, it’s not far-fetched to think she might have been confused and ended up in a safe space with kind strangers who aren’t aware of the broader situation. It’s been nearly a decade, and sometimes people in such cases find themselves taking on new identities, or they’re cared for by people outside the usual networks. Has there been focus on reaching out to local shelters or communities outside San Antonio? I know it’s a long shot, but it feels like every angle should be revisited when there’s been no trace for so long.
