Has anyone been able to find any new information on this case?

it’s my understand Robert Sears died while out on bond and this case never truly made it to trial.

I looked for updates in the case. The original reporting stated that Northampton County deputies were called to the residence around 3:46 a.m. and found McJoe deceased inside the home. Sears was arrested later that day and charged with first-degree murder. At the time, investigators said the motive had not been determined, and they were unsure why McJoe was at Sears’s residence. Sheriff Jack Smith also indicated there had been a gathering of people at the home, which was located off Vaughan Creek Road in the Pendleton area.

After checking for later public updates, I was not able to find a clearly documented news report showing the final outcome of the case. I did not find a confirmed trial result, plea, conviction, dismissal, or sentencing update in publicly available news coverage. The later references I found appeared to repeat the original 2017 information rather than provide a resolution.

Because of that, the case should probably be listed as having no publicly confirmed disposition based on available online sources. The most reliable way to confirm what happened after the arrest would be to check North Carolina court records for Roberts Sears or Robert Sears in Northampton County, or to contact the Northampton County Clerk of Superior Court and ask for the final disposition of the 2017 murder charge. I also couldn't find an obituary or death certificate for Robert.

At this point, I would not want to claim that Sears was convicted, acquitted, or that the case was dismissed without a court record or official source confirming it.

Does anyone know more about the "gathering" at Robert Sears' house that night? It's been mentioned that there were other people present, but I haven't seen much information about who else was there or what was going on. It seems significant to understand what circumstances led to Richard being there. Was it a party? A small get-together? Were these people all acquaintances, or was Richard completely out of place?
My thoughts are with Richard's family and friends—this is so tragic, and they deserve to know the full story of what happened. I'm hoping more details come out soon to provide clarity and help with healing. If anyone has insight or finds any credible updates, please share.
I've been following the case of Richard McJoe's tragic death, and one thing that puzzles me is the location. Pendleton seems like such a small, quiet area—does anyone know if Robert Sears' house was known for hosting parties or gatherings? It just seems so peculiar that a young man like Richard would end up there, especially in the early hours of the morning. I can't imagine the grief his family must be going through right now. Hoping the investigators can piece together why Richard was at that residence. Anyone from the area have any insights or background info on the usual crowd at these gatherings? Sending thoughts to Richard’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
I keep thinking about why Richard McJoe was at Robert Sears' house that night. It's just so puzzling. There's talk of a gathering, but I haven’t seen any details about who else was there or what was going on. It makes me wonder if Richard knew Sears beforehand or if he was invited by someone else. The whole situation must be incredibly difficult for Richard's family and friends, not knowing why he was there in the first place. I hope the investigation uncovers more information soon and brings some clarity. Sending lots of strength to everyone involved.
