I've been really struck by the community's outpouring of love and support for De'Monte RaShawn Perkins's family. It's heartening to see people come together, but it also makes the pain of this senseless tragedy even more apparent. The fact that De'Monte was only 22 and had his entire life ahead of him is deeply saddening. It’s hard not to think about what more he could have achieved or the lives he would have touched. I came across a vigil that was held in his honor shortly after his passing, where friends and family shared stories of his kindness and dedication. Hearing how he lit up a room and was always there for others makes it even more unacceptable that his life was taken in such a brutal way. It's a stark reminder of the violence that unfortunately persists in our society and the urgent need for change to prevent such losses in the future. I hope we can keep his memory alive by advocating for safer communities and supporting initiatives that aim to reduce crime. My thoughts are with De'Monte's family and everyone who knew and loved him. ?
