I'm so deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Demario "Skinny" Roddey. It’s hard to fathom how a promising young life could be cut short over an argument. I've been thinking a lot about the issue of youth violence in Charlotte and how frequently it seems to occur. It’s disturbing to see so many teenagers getting involved in such serious crimes. What's going on in our community that’s leading so many young people down this path? Demario’s story is a sobering reminder of the urgency needed to address these issues. We need more support systems in place for our youth—better mediation resources, more community programs, anything that can help steer them away from violence. I hope Demario’s friends and family are finding comfort in each other during this time. It’s up to us to ensure that his death leads to meaningful change. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy.
