I was thinking about Curtis and the unique path he took in life. Having served in the US Marine Corps and then working as a cab driver for 15 years, Curtis's story is a testament to his dedication and resilience. It's remarkable how he continued his education at Winston-Salem State University and Forsyth Tech after serving his country. It shows just how committed he was to improving himself and carving out a stable future.
It's deeply upsetting that someone who contributed so much to his community and had such a diverse and positive life experience could be taken away so suddenly. Curtis’s life journey is a reminder of the extraordinary steps some take to provide for their loved ones. My heart goes out to his family and friends as they cope with this tragic loss. They deserve answers, and I hope the community steps up to support them during this incredibly difficult time.
I'm new to these forums and just reading through some of these cases reminds me of how fragile life can be. I was particularly struck by the case of Curtis Lee McCollum. It's just unsettling to think that someone like Curtis, who seemed to live a life dedicated to family, community, and work, could meet such a violent end.
I’m curious if anyone knows whether there's been any talk about improving safety measures for cab drivers since Curtis’s and Richard Webb's deaths. I know these tragic incidents are a couple of years old now, but it's just such a terrifying thought that these drivers, who are simply trying to make an honest living, might have to face these kinds of dangers.
For anyone who knew Curtis or has been following the case closely, has there been any movement or advocacy for things like surveillance cameras in cabs, panic buttons, or even more extensive background checks for new customers?
My thoughts are with Curtis’s family and friends. It's clear from what people say about him, he was a truly standup guy.

Thanks so much for the kind words. He is my father
