Has anyone else been following the case updates on Malachi Jaheim Hailey? I’ve been thinking a lot about that 12-year-old boy who found him—can't imagine the impact it's had on his young life. Discovering something so tragic while just trying to enjoy a game of basketball... it's something no child should have to experience. I really hope he’s receiving the support he needs to process what he stumbled upon. It’s a stark reminder of how lives can change in an instant, even for those who aren't directly connected to the crime. It's a heavy topic, but it brings out the importance of community resources for kids who've been exposed to trauma, especially in incidents as heartbreaking as this. If anyone's from the area, do you know if there are any initiatives to help local children cope with witnessing violence?

It's so moving to see how the community in Rockingham came together to support Annette Leak after Malachi’s tragic death. I can only imagine the tremendous pain she's enduring, but it’s clear she’s not alone. The vigil held in August 2021 was such a powerful reminder of Malachi’s impact on those around him and how loved he was. Seeing a community rally like that is truly heartening. It’s sad that his life was taken so senselessly, but the efforts of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the community’s support show there’s a strong desire for justice and remembrance. Does anyone else feel like these vigils and public gatherings offer a sense of healing, not just for the family but for the entire community? Islanders of hope amidst such sorrow. My thoughts are with them.
