I just wanted to take a moment to talk about the impact that Makiia's death has had on her school community at D.F. Walker Elementary. From what I've read, Makiia was truly loved by her classmates and teachers. It must be incredibly tough for those young kids who’ve lost a friend they saw every day. I can't even imagine what teachers are going through having to explain such a senseless tragedy to children who are still trying to understand the world. It’s clear that the school is doing its best to support everyone affected by offering counseling and creating a space to remember Makiia. If any of you are parents or teachers out there, maybe you could share some advice or experiences? How do you talk to kids about something so incredibly cruel and unfair? My heart goes out to everyone at D.F. Walker Elementary during this time. No child deserves to experience this, and no community should have to endure such a loss. Let's hope the investigation brings some answers soon.
