Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about the community's response in the tragic case of Jesus Candela-Abonza and Dylan Samuel Lopez. It's incredibly disheartening to see that out of over 200 people present at Utah Drive that night, only one witness felt able to come forward. This reluctance to speak up is concerning and raises so many questions about why people are hesitant to help authorities in such dire situations.
Are folks afraid of retaliation, or is there a deeper mistrust of law enforcement at play here? It makes me wonder if there could be more community-based support systems or initiatives to encourage folks to share what they know without fear. These young boys deserved a future, and we owe it to them to create an environment where truth can come to light and justice can be served. It's a tough situation, but I hope with increased trust and safety, more people will feel empowered to do the right thing in the future.
Any insights or similar experiences from your communities would be helpful as we think about how to strengthen this bond between law enforcement and citizens.
