I’ve been following Dorothy Forstein’s case for a while, and something that always puzzles me is how eerily calm the scene was inside the house when she was taken. Her daughter, Marcy, saw this man carry Dorothy out and told Marcy not to worry, yet there were no signs of a struggle or forced entry. It makes me wonder if this person knew Dorothy from before or perhaps had some kind of familiarity with the family, enough to make Marcy feel a bit reassured even in such a terrifying moment. Moreover, considering the previous attack on Dorothy in 1945 where she was left injured but alive, I can't help but think there might be a connection between these incidents. Whoever attacked her that day didn’t take anything—were they just trying to send a message or scare her? Did they come back four years later to complete whatever their initial plan was? It’s unsettling to think this person could have been watching her all along, planning their next move. And as for the lack of leads, it feels like an unfortunate combination of the era's limited forensic technology and the seemingly ordinary way the abduction was executed. I just hope that someday, someone will be able to piece together enough information to provide some answers for her family.
