Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking a lot about Gabriel McNair’s case, and it really brings to light the constant issue of public safety in our communities. Gabriel was just one of the many lives lost to violence in Detroit in 2015, and it makes me wonder how we can do more to address these issues. It's not just about numbers—it’s about real people, families, and futures that were tragically cut short.
I don't know about you all, but I feel a mixture of anger and sadness when I see these broader trends being discussed with people like Gabriel as just another statistic. He was a 50-year-old man—a part of someone's family. When I look at the history of crime in Detroit, it seems like the city has been doing a bit better overall, but clearly there's still so much more work to be done. What are some effective community initiatives or programs any of you have heard of that might be making a difference in other cities?
It would be great if we could brainstorm ways to create more awareness or support for efforts in making the city a safer place for everyone. Holding space for Gabriel's family and all those affected by such a deep loss.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
