Just came across the case of Damon Lester, and it's a powerful reminder of how deep the issue of violent crime runs in Detroit. The man was only 43, just around my age, and thinking about losing a life so suddenly is unsettling. I can't even imagine the pain his family and friends must feel. It’s maddening that so many cases end up unsolved. It seems like every time you read the news, another family is left with more questions than answers.
What really struck me is how Damon’s case highlights the problem of witness cooperation. I get that people might fear retaliation or have other reasons for staying silent, but it just leaves me wondering how we can address that fear. Encouraging community involvement is great, but it seems like we need a massive shift in trust. Maybe more community outreach or protection programs for witnesses could help? Sending thoughts to Damon’s loved ones today, hoping they get the justice and peace they deserve.
