Does anyone else think it's odd that Dr. Jay Smith seemed to gain something financially right after Stephanie and Edward disappeared? I mean, I get that he might have been trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy by cashing those welfare checks, but it feels off. Especially since they left behind an uncashed tax refund check, you'd think that money would have been a priority if they were in financial trouble. Plus, the fact that their move to California was just a theory and they didn't take any belongings with them makes that explanation even less plausible. I know people have been on this for years, but has there ever been an in-depth look into Dr. Smith’s financial records around that time? Maybe there’s a detail we’ve missed that could shed more light on why he remained a suspect.
