David Lamar Moody, 37, was last seen by family in Chattanooga around Thanksgiving 1984 and had not been seen for about six months when his mother reported him missing on April 8, 1985. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation, but the long gap between his disappearance and the missing-person report complicated the effort to establish a timeline.

Moody is described as a white male, 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 160 pounds, with salt-and-pepper gray hair, a mustache, blue eyes, a muscular build, and two missing bottom front teeth. The case is listed in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. Investigators have followed various leads over the years but report no substantial breakthroughs, and foul play is suspected.

If anyone knew David, saw him in the Chattanooga area in late 1984, or has information that could help fill the six-month gap before he was reported missing, please share what you know with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
