It’s so tough to read about another unsolved case like that of Rasseal Brooks. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain his family must be feeling not having answers for so many years. It’s troubling how often we hear about unsolved homicides in Detroit, yet so little movement seems to be made in solving them. I find it particularly frustrating to hear how the lack of community cooperation contributes to these cases going cold. While I understand the fear or distrust people may feel towards the police, I wish there was more focus on building bridges between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Trust is crucial if we ever hope to see justice for Rasseal and others in similar situations. Hopefully, as advancements in forensic technology continue to develop and organizations push for more public involvement, we’ll eventually see some breakthroughs and peace for the families longing for closure.
