It's truly unsettling to think about how many cases like James Mills’ remain unsolved. I can't imagine the frustration and pain his family must be going through. One thing that always stands out to me is how vital community involvement is in these investigations. I keep hearing stories about how a single tip can make all the difference, but it makes me wonder why there isn’t more emphasis on protecting witnesses. With so many people understandably hesitant to come forward because they fear retaliation, perhaps more could be done to assure their safety. If there was a way to better protect those willing to speak up, maybe we would see more breakthroughs in cases like James’. It's clear the Detroit Police Department is doing what it can with what they have, but I hope there’s room for innovation that can actually make people feel safer about providing critical information. My thoughts remain with the Mills family and all others awaiting justice.
