I keep thinking about the role social media played in Neville Allen’s murder. It's chilling to see how something that’s supposed to keep us connected can become a breeding ground for jealousy and threats. In the weeks leading up to the tragedy, Neville had been receiving hostile messages that hinted at escalating tensions. It breaks my heart to think that these warnings were perhaps shrugged off as empty threats, or maybe he felt trapped and didn’t know where to turn. We see so often now how disputes unravel online and spill into real life with devastating consequences. Neville’s case is a tragic reminder of how things can spiral out of control. I’m hoping that one day we’ll figure out a way to better protect folks from this kind of digital harassment before it reaches a tragic climax like it did for Neville. We need to remember him for the bright future he had, and use our voices to advocate for safer online communities. Keeping Neville and his family in my thoughts.
