Has anyone else been following the impact Javonte Barber's tragic death has had on Southern University and the Baton Rouge community? I can't stop thinking about how his family was given his degree posthumously. It’s hard not to be moved by how much this young man accomplished and the recognition he received, even in such sad circumstances. Javonte's story really makes me reflect on how violence impacts not just the victims, but their families and communities as well. His future was so promising, and it's just devastating that it was cut short. I really hope the community stays united to support each other through this difficult time and works together to combat the violence that plagues our city. My thoughts go out to Javonte's loved ones. It’s a pain no family should have to endure.
