I’ve been thinking a lot about the broken holster Officer Seward had that night. It’s such a haunting detail. With all the risks officers face daily, equipment failure shouldn’t be one of them. I can’t help but wonder, had his holster been functioning properly, could it have changed the outcome? It’s incredibly sad to think that something as simple as gear maintenance might play a role in such a tragic loss. My heart goes out to Officer Seward’s family and to Patrolman Cosgrove, who had to witness such a traumatic event. It’s a poignant reminder of the challenges and the unpredictable nature of police work. Hoping other departments took note and reviewed their equipment protocols. Rest in peace, Officer Seward.
