I was recently reading about the Brown's Chicken massacre, and something that struck me was how the tight-knit community of Palatine must have felt in the aftermath of such a tragedy. Knowing that Thomas Mennes was just 32 and had his life cut short in such a brutal way must have left a lasting scar on his loved ones. It’s hard to fathom what his family and friends went through, waiting nearly a decade for answers. With both Juan Luna and James Degorski now serving life sentences, I hope it brings some semblance of closure to his family. But, as anyone who's lost someone knows, the pain never fully goes away. It’s important to remember Thomas and all the victims as more than just names in a news story; they were real people with dreams, hopes, and futures. The community's resilience in facing such a difficult period is truly commendable, but the cracks it left behind are reminders of the lives lost. Has anyone else noticed how incidents like these haunt a town for years to come?
