I've been thinking a lot about the atmosphere at Calumet High School after Joseph Waites' tragic death. It must have been such a heavy cloud over the school community, especially since he was so involved as the team's student-manager. I can’t imagine how difficult it was for his friends, teammates, and teachers to return to their daily routines. Joseph sounded like he was a core part of the team, likely motivating and supporting the players every step of the way. From what information has come out about Joseph, he was respected and cherished by those around him. I really feel for everyone who knew him and had to face this senseless loss. This is a powerful reminder of how deeply these acts of violence can impact not just a single family but an entire community. My heart goes out to all the students who had to navigate their school life in the wake of such a tragedy. It makes me think about the larger impact of losing a kind and promising person like Joseph, and how strong his community had to be to start healing from this event.
