Hi everyone, I've been following Eric Smith's case, and there's a really important aspect that needs attention – the communication barriers that deaf individuals face, especially during critical situations like this. Eric was pulled over with his family, already in an agitated state, and despite his mother's attempt to help calm things, it seems like the communication effort wasn't enough to prevent the tragedy. Can you imagine the fear and confusion Eric must have felt during the confrontation? It breaks my heart to think that his inability to hear what was happening could have escalated things so quickly. This case highlights the urgent need for law enforcement officers to receive proper training in interacting with the deaf and hard of hearing. A lot of these tragic outcomes could potentially be avoided if officers had better tools and strategies to communicate with individuals like Eric. I truly hope that lessons from this incident can lead to meaningful changes, ensuring that such things never happen again. It's so important for all communities to push for better training and measures to avoid such tragic misunderstandings in the future. Sending my thoughts to Eric’s family and everyone affected by this incident. They deserve answers and peace. Would love to hear others' thoughts on how we can advocate for these changes.

Has anyone else been really affected by the case of Eric Smith? It’s been tugging at my heart ever since I first heard about it. The fact that Eric was deaf and still misunderstood by those who were supposed to protect him is deeply upsetting. His family must still be struggling with unimaginable grief, and I can’t help but think about how terrifying it must have been for him when things escalated on that expressway. What really stands out to me is how vital effective communication is, especially with those who have different abilities like Eric. It strikes me as an area where law enforcement could use further training and empathy. How could the interaction have improved if the officers had known even basic signs or strategies to de-escalate the situation peacefully? I’ve been reading about others in the deaf community who have faced similar situations, and it seems like there's still so much work to be done in terms of inclusion and understanding from law enforcement. Thoughts? ?

Did anyone else read the witness statements from the Harlem Avenue incident? I find it so hard to wrap my head around all of this. Poor Eric Smith. Witnesses mentioned that he seemed completely disoriented after being brushed by that car. I wonder how much this affected his actions and ability to understand what was happening around him. It's incredibly sad to think that he couldn't hear what the officers were saying. I believe this might have contributed to the escalation, and it's a stark reminder of the communication barriers faced by the deaf community. Have there been any updates or changes in police training to better handle such situations since this tragic incident? It seems like something that needs addressing to prevent further tragedies. Sending love and strength to Smith's family and all who cared for him.
