Has anyone else thought about the impact Erica Benson’s case had on the youth in Joliet back in '97? I feel like incidents like these shake a community to its core, especially with Erica being just 16. Her tragic death must have left a mark on her peers and friends. It’s so hard to come to terms with such loss at a young age, and I can only imagine the weight her school and friends might have felt. I've read that often these incidents can lead to programs in schools focusing on mental health or community support. Does anyone know if anything like that happened in Joliet after this case? It just makes me think about how crucial it is to have resources and conversations around these issues, especially for kids who are grieving or trying to make sense of the unthinkable.
