I keep thinking about the impact this must have had on Emanuel's friends and community. Growing up in a high-crime area is tough enough without losing someone you care about in such a violent way. Emanuel was so young, just 18, and I can only imagine the shock and grief his friends went through. The gatherings and vigils they held show how much he was loved and how tight-knit their community must be. These kinds of losses leave deep scars, and I hope the continued conversations around gun violence can help bring about change, even if it’s just a bit more awareness or resources for similar communities. My heart truly goes out to all those who knew Emanuel.
