It's been ten years since Charles Bush's tragic death, and it still haunts the Washington Park neighborhood. I recently came across a piece about the community-led initiatives that have sprung up since his passing, and it's both inspiring and frustrating. Inspiring because it shows how much people want to make a change and prevent further violence, but frustrating because Charles's murder remains unsolved despite everyone's efforts. I can't imagine the pain his family and friends endure each day, hoping for answers that still haven't come. It breaks my heart to think that fear holds so many from speaking up. It's understandable; the fear of retaliation can be paralyzing. But without that brave step forward, families like Charles's are left in the dark. I firmly believe that a little bit of courage by some could be a huge step toward justice for Charles and other victims in similar circumstances. To everyone out there, if you know something, even the smallest detail, please consider coming forward. It could be the piece of the puzzle detectives need. Let's help bring some peace to a community and a grieving family who deserve it.
