Just came across the details surrounding Schiquille Salter's tragic death, and it got me thinking about how vital community involvement is in cases like these. It's been over nine years, and it’s frustrating to see that there still hasn't been any significant progress in finding who’s responsible. I can only imagine how difficult this prolonged uncertainty must be for his family and friends. One aspect that really stands out to me is the lack of witnesses willing to come forward. The fear of retaliation seems to be a huge barrier, which is understandable given the violence that has happened in the West Pullman area. It's a sad cycle—people don’t feel safe enough to speak up, which in turn makes it harder to break the cycle of violence. I hope the community can find ways to build trust with law enforcement so that more people might feel secure in sharing what they know. Perhaps there could be more programs or support systems that encourage safe anonymous reporting? I'm curious if other communities facing similar issues have found effective strategies. My heart goes out to everyone affected by Schiquille's death. May they find the justice and peace they’re seeking.
