I recently came across some information about the vigil for DeSean Pittman that really strikes at the core of community struggles. I can’t imagine how devastating it must have been for his loved ones trying to come together peacefully, only to face violence and disruption by the Chicago Police at what was meant to be a space for mourning and remembrance. It’s disheartening to think about the pain those arrested must have felt, being unable to meet bail and ending up in Cook County Jail. The creation of the Chicago Community Bond Fund after this incident seems like a crucial step in the right direction, but it shouldn't have taken something so tragic to highlight the flaws in the system. Bond and bail reform is clearly an urgent matter, because no one should have to sit in jail just because they can't afford their freedom, especially when they're in the middle of grieving such an immense loss. My thoughts are with DeSean’s family and everyone else who’s suffered from such injustices. I truly hope that more awareness can lead to tangible changes in the way these issues are addressed.

I've been following the unfolding developments around DeSean Pittman's case, and something that's been on my mind is the conduct of Officer Hunt after the shooting. There seems to have been a lot of controversy surrounding Hunt even before this tragic incident, especially with reports of his previous questionable arrests. What's really concerning to me is how officers with such histories continue to have careers in law enforcement without closer scrutiny or intervention from their superiors. It's deeply unsettling to think about the impact this has not just on victims like DeSean but also on community trust. These repeated incidents contribute to tensions and make it difficult for many to feel safe or respected by those meant to protect them. I hope justice and accountability are pursued rigorously, not just in DeSean's case but across the board. My thoughts are with his family and everyone affected by the far-reaching consequences of this tragedy.
