I keep thinking about how vulnerable taxi drivers are and how much trust they put in strangers every day. Kamil Shamji was just trying to provide for his kids, doing what any parent would do after their partner passes. It's deeply saddening to see how quickly Weathers resorted to violence, especially knowing that Shamji would have willingly handed over his belongings if it meant staying safe for his family. It's so tragic that trust was broken like that. The fact that Weathers had a history of robbing cab drivers really bothers me. How many times do we let people slip through the cracks before they do something irreversible? And what kind of support systems can we put in place for families like Shamji's who are left picking up the pieces after such a senseless act? My heart really goes out to his daughters, who have already suffered so much loss. This case is a jarring reminder of the risks facing those who work hard to support their families under difficult circumstances.
