I’ve been following Eric Burgin’s case and can’t stop thinking about how it all unfolded. I read that he was on his grandma's porch. Imagine the sense of safety he must have felt, being in a place that was supposed to be a sanctuary. It makes my heart ache thinking that a space tied to family and fond memories became the scene of such tragedy. What stuns me is Cam’Ron Howard’s sudden aggression—asking about weed, then in moments turning to violence. I wonder if the culture around gang affiliations desensitized him to this level of violence. It’s such a stark reminder of how urgently we need to address the roots of these issues in Chicago. If we don’t work together to find solutions, more families might face the same tragic loss as Eric’s. I really hope people start to see the human side of these stories. Does anyone else feel like the community needs more support systems?
