I’ve been following DeAndre’s case closely and it's truly gut-wrenching to see how his life was torn away from him at such a young age. Something that strikes me is the bravery of the witnesses who came forward. In many communities, especially where there's a strong sense of fear and mistrust, speaking up can be dangerous and even life-threatening. It must’ve taken a lot of courage for them to step out of the shadows to help piece together what happened. Their willingness to provide crucial information helped push the investigation forward and hold people accountable. I hope this emboldens others in the East St. Louis community to stand up against violence and support law enforcement's efforts to bring lasting peace. Thinking of DeAndre’s family and friends as they navigate this painful journey. Their strength and the community’s support shine a light in this dark time.
