I can't stop thinking about how often cases like Jose Mendoza's go unsolved due to the fear and hesitancy people feel about coming forward. It's such a hard situation because you can see why people might be scared—no one wants to risk their safety or the safety of their families. But it makes me wonder if there are ways to protect and reassure potential witnesses so they feel safe sharing what they know. Maybe more programs or initiatives to support and safeguard witnesses could make a real difference? My heart goes out to Jose's family, who are left waiting for answers. It’s especially frustrating knowing many families in Chicago face the same struggle. If anyone has had experience or insight into initiatives that have worked elsewhere, it would be great to hear about them. Every little bit helps in trying to find some form of resolution for these families.
