I can't stop thinking about the incredible courage and resilience shown by Yakez’s mom, Evangeline, throughout all of this. What an impossibly difficult journey she must be enduring. Not only did she lose her only son in such a senseless act, but she’s taken the pain of that loss and used it as a force for social justice, continuing the essence of Yakez’s spirit in advocating for change. It's truly moving to see how the Evanston community has rallied around her—I hope she feels the love and support wrapped around her like an impenetrable blanket. It's heartbreaking to think about how promising Yakez's future was, filled with dreams of travel and building a life of his own. It's a stark reminder of how precious life is and the profound impact one person can have. Sending strength to her and everyone whose lives were touched by Yakez.
