It's difficult not to focus on the little boy who now faces life with such a heavy burden, all at such a tender age. I can't imagine the hardship and pain the families are enduring, especially knowing that the innocence of a child was shattered forever. What strikes me most is how the ripple effects of Mays' actions have not only ended lives, but they've irrevocably changed the future of a young child. I saw in another thread that the families were upset about Mays waiving his right to attend the sentencing. It feels so wrong that someone could cause so much harm and not even have to face the families who now live with the scars of his actions. It may be a small part of the story, but for the boy, it's his whole life and future that's been altered. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy, and I hope that in sharing their stories, we can honor their memories and foster a community of support for those left behind.

Growing up in a close-knit community like Bloomington, it's incredibly difficult to come to terms with tragedies like the June 18th shooting. My heart goes out to the families, particularly that of Corey D. Jackson. Corey's future was stolen from him, and every time I think about it, it just drives home how much more than statistics these victims are—they’re loved ones, friends, and neighbors. I’ve been following the case closely, and despite the legal closure with Mays's sentencing, I can't imagine the pain Corey’s family feels knowing Mays waived his right to appear at the sentencing. It seems so unfair that the people who loved Corey and the other victims didn’t get the closure of seeing the perpetrator face the consequences of his actions in person. Does anyone know if there have been any community initiatives established in Corey’s memory or if there are ways to support the families? Sometimes, coming together as a community can be a powerful way to honor those who were lost.

Hey everyone, I've been reading through the threads about the tragic events on Riley Drive, and I wanted to talk a bit about the heartbreaking impact on the community, especially concerning the young boy who was caught up in all this. As a parent, it's particularly gut-wrenching to imagine this little one not just losing his father in such a violent way, but also facing a life forever changed by his injuries. I've seen some speculation about how this could've happened, but I keep coming back to wondering about the long-term support for this child. It’s not just physical therapy and medical care from here on out—he's going to need so much emotional support and love to help him process all of this. I hope local organizations and maybe even nationwide ones are stepping in. I've been thinking that maybe we, as a community, could raise some awareness or even start a fund to help him. It's clear that the victims’ families are left holding the pieces, and any help could mean the world. If anyone has any latest updates or knows of some way to assist, please share. Keeping all the victims and their families in my thoughts. ?
