I was revisiting the tragic case of Jasman Elmore and something really stuck out to me. What must it have been like for his teachers and classmates at school? At 18, he would have been on the brink of high school graduation, a time that's supposed to be about looking forward to a bright future. For them to lose a fellow student in such a brutal way must have been incredibly traumatic. I can't help but wonder if the school provided any counseling or support to help them process this loss. The frequent violence in Baltimore must create a pervasive atmosphere of fear and grief for students—just imagining having to go back to class where that empty desk is a constant reminder of the friend they've lost breaks my heart. I really hope stories like these push for more support systems within schools to help students cope with the ongoing violence surrounding them.
