I’ve been following Ashton’s case for a while now, and I keep thinking about the impact this has had on his mom, Jera’ Gentry. It must be incredibly difficult for her to cope with losing her son in such a violent way, knowing that she might never find the closure she deserves. Ashton sounded like such a kind soul, loved by friends and family alike. It is just so senseless. I wonder how the community is rallying around Jera’ and if there are any ongoing efforts to support her and others affected by this tragedy. It’s important that we continue to remember Ashton and advocate for change to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Just really feeling for his family right now.

I was thinking about the sentencing in Ashton's case and can't help but feel for his family. Sixteen years for taking a life seems so inadequate, especially when you consider that Ashton’s family and friends have a lifetime of pain ahead without him. The plea deal must have been incredibly frustrating for them. I get that it’s part of the system, but it feels like justice wasn’t fully served. Ashton seemed like such a lively and positive person; just reading about his church involvement and the way people describe him makes this all feel so senseless. This case really highlights some serious issues with gun violence and sentencing. It’s hard to comprehend why these tragedies keep happening. My heart goes out to those who knew him; hopefully, we can learn from this and push for change.
