I’ve been thinking about the lives that Yvonne Randle and Antonio McDaniels must have touched in their community. It’s truly devastating to hear about such a tragedy happening to them, especially given how much the Englewood community is already facing. The bond between aunts and nephews is often so special, and it’s just heart-wrenching to imagine that being shattered in this way. I can’t help but think about their families and friends left behind to grapple with these losses and how they’re managing to find a path toward healing. The community surely rallied around them, yet the absence of Yvonne and Antonio probably leaves an enormous void. For everyone who knew and loved them, I hope they have found some strength and comfort in each other during such a difficult time. It’s another reminder of the importance of supporting communities that endure repeatedly and confronting the underlying issues that lead to violence. My thoughts are with all the families in the Englewood neighborhood who are coping with loss in their lives.
