I’ve been reflecting on the role the community has played in trying to seek justice for Dareyona Smith. The way people have come together, led by figures like Father Michael Pfleger, really shows the power of collective advocacy. It’s both inspiring and tragic that it often takes such senseless loss for communities to rally so strongly. What's really poignant is how Dareyona’s school and her peers have continued to honor her memory. Her dedication to sports and academics made her a role model for others, and it’s clear that her influence hasn’t faded. From organizing vigils to setting up memorials at her school, these actions not only pay tribute but also keep public attention on her case. It’s a testament to how beloved she was and how much she impacted those around her. It’s hard not to feel a deep sense of frustration knowing the case remains unsolved. With so many witnesses, it’s baffling that more solid leads haven’t emerged. I really hope that anyone who knows something will find the courage to come forward. For Dareyona’s family and for a community that refuses to stay silent, justice cannot come soon enough.
