I recently came across Kelly Smith's case again, and I can't stop thinking about the sneaker wave incident. It's just a reminder of how unpredictable and dangerous nature can be. I grew up in Oregon and have visited the coast near Depoe Bay multiple times, but I didn't realize how quickly things can turn dangerous until reading about what Kelly and his friends experienced that day. It makes me wonder if there are enough warning signs or public awareness campaigns along those areas. Has there been any effort to increase awareness or educate visitors since 2016? It just feels like there’s so much more we could be doing to prevent these kinds of tragedies. Would love to hear from locals or frequent visitors about what they've noticed over the years.
Has anyone else looked into the weather conditions on April 15, 2016, around Depoe Bay? I was digging through some historical weather data, and it seems like there were reports of unusually high swells that day. It makes me wonder if there were any warnings issued that Kelly's group might not have been aware of. It's so tragic thinking about how quickly these sneaker waves can catch even the most cautious people off guard. It might be helpful to know if there were any precautions in place that could inform future cases and prevent similar incidents.
