I've been thinking a lot about the role social media plays in cases like Deon's. It's haunting to know that his last moments were broadcasted live on Facebook. While it's disturbing to imagine his fear and pain being shared so publicly, we have to consider the dual nature of such platforms - they can inadvertently provide evidence that might help solve cases, but they also expose intense trauma to a wide audience. I can't begin to comprehend the emotions of Deon’s friends and family, knowing his life was turned into a spectacle in those final seconds. I hope that out of this tragedy, there can be some form of justice, at least for Deon’s loved ones. It's a sobering reminder of how social media can amplify both the good and the terrible in our world. Sending strength to everyone impacted by this senseless act of violence.
