Every time I think about the tragedy that befell little Colton Miller, I can't help but feel overwhelmed by the sense of loss and sorrow. It's absolutely terrifying that this happened in a place where they should have felt safest—their own home. What really stands out to me, beyond the heinous act itself, is the glaring neglect in the system meant to protect them. How was Christopher able to keep his gun even after his FOID card was revoked? It's deeply worrying that Cassandra reported his violent tendencies and nothing was done to prevent this tragedy. The fact that this could have possibly been avoided with more stringent checks and actions just makes the gravity of this loss even heavier. It's crucial that we support Cassandra as she fights for policy changes. What else can we do to ensure no family has to suffer like this again? My thoughts are with Cassandra and Camryn as they navigate through this unimaginable pain.
