I came across the details of Amanda Bishop's murder and it really stuck with me how systemic issues played into her tragic fate. Amanda was just 22, a young mother trying to navigate extremely difficult circumstances. It's deeply troubling to reflect on how women in her position find themselves without the support or protection they desperately need. Knowing that Amanda and others were targeted in these horrific crimes really calls attention to how overlooked and unprotected women in sex work are. It's frustrating to see that despite advocacy groups trying to push for change and adequate services, there's still a massive gap. When will society start providing these vulnerable women with the safety and resources they deserve? I hope with all the focus on Amanda's case and others like it, there will be greater awareness and action taken to address these dangers. My heart goes out to Amanda’s family and her children — losing her in such a violent and senseless way is unimaginable. As a community, we need to keep talking and advocating so that law enforcement feels the urgency to solve these cases and prevent future ones.
