In light of James Daly's tragic passing, I wanted to bring attention to the pressing issue of mental health support for our police officers. It’s devastating to learn that this wasn’t an isolated incident within the CPD, and knowing that James was the 10th officer in a few years to take such an irreversible step highlights the critical need for change. I can’t help but wonder about the current approaches the department is taking to address mental health concerns. It seems evident that more needs to be done to provide comprehensive support systems. Are there any peer support programs or mental health counseling freely available to officers without fear of stigma? The stress and trauma officers endure are often unimaginable, and it’s crucial that we have candid conversations about this. Steps need to be taken to make sure officers have a safe space to seek help. My thoughts are with James’s family and his colleagues; may this loss serve as a catalyst for meaningful change.
