Has anyone looked into the possibility that William Rener might have crossed paths with someone involved in illegal activities during his leave? Given the era and location, the 1960s were rife with various underground dealings, especially near military bases. I wonder if Rener discovered something he shouldn't have or was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes, knowing or seeing the wrong thing can lead to drastic consequences. Also, having served over a decade, he likely had connections or acquaintances that could've led to unexpected situations. It's frustrating how a man with such a strong military career and responsibilities back home could vanish into thin air without a trace. This angle may be worth investigating or revisiting. Any thoughts?
