I've been thinking a lot about Jamari Williams and the place where the shooting happened. This spot around South Holland Road is such a common hangout for kids after school, which makes it all the more horrifying that something so terrible took place there. It's supposed to be a safe space where students can just be themselves, catch up with friends, and wind down after classes. Instead, it became the scene of a senseless act that took a promising young life away. I can't even begin to comprehend the fear and trauma the students who frequent that area must be feeling right now. Just knowing that they were at a place they've always felt comfortable, and now having to deal with the fact that it's become linked to such violence—it's just unimaginable. Jamari's teammates and classmates must be going through so much, and my heart goes out to them and his family. They've lost not just a friend and a son, but the safety and peace of mind that comes with feeling secure in familiar places. I hope the investigation picks up soon because this community desperately needs some answers and justice to start healing.
